Currently, Heavy Monsoon rains wreaked havoc in Pune, with severe waterlogging in many areas. Due to very heavy rains in Pune, the District Collector, Nawal Kishore Ram has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in the district today.

Rainfall activity has been in a deficit in all the three months of the season, so far. In the past 20 years, there have been only two instances (2004 and 2009) when rainfall was consistently in deficit over the first three months of the season. Additionally, in both these years, rainfall remained in deficit in the month of September also.

India witnessed 4% deficit rainfall in the August 30 - September 7 week, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted that the country will see more rainfall in the second half of the monsoon.
